2014-06-04 chrome draw

California Chrome is a beautiful horse.  Just look at the colors on that pony.  Can the next color be green, as in ca$h?

California Chrome will run Saturday in the Belmont Stakes downstate.  This beauty has already won two of horse racing's biggest races: the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes.  If the horse can run to victory Sat. afternoon, it will break a long drought in racing.

It has been 36 years since another horse named Affirmed won horse racing's Triple Crown, the trifecta of the 3 biggest races in the horsing world.  Wednesday California Chrome drew the second slot for the start of the race.  That's a good place to start.

Now the horse only has to run faster than 10 other beauties on Saturday to make history.  Having grown up in Canandaigua, just a few miles away from Finger Lakes Race Track in Farmington, you'd think I'd know something about horse racing.  You would be wrong, even though I once ran on the track at Finger Lakes in a charity race (radio disc jockeys vs. horse jockeys...who do you think won?  Not the dumb DJs).

All I know now is that it will be tough to make money on California Chrome as the odds are currently at 3-5, which means you won't get much of a payment if the horse wins.  But it might be a fun event to take in Sat. afternoon.  And even if you don't like racing, it only takes about 2 minutes to finish the race.  It might be worth a couple minutes of your weekend to check out the beautiful horses and all the celebs who pretend like they know what they are doing when it comes to gambling.
