A perfect first weekend of June brings plenty of options for fun in our area.  Here's some of your choices:

>> FAIRPORT CANAL DAYS...is one of the biggest festivals in our area all summer.  It kicks off Friday night with live music and fireworks in the village.  Main St. will be closed all day Sat. and Sun. as thousands wander the village checking out all the arts, crafts, live music and entertainment choices.

>> YORK FIRE DEPT PARADE AND CARNIVAL...is a big hit on route 63 in Livingston Co.  Along with the traditional parade and carnival, there's a chicken BBQ to raise money for the volunteer fire dept.

>> RELAY FOR LIFE...for the American Cancer Society Fri. night.  The walk begins at 5p at Gates-Chili High School and 7p in Spencerport, honoring those who have survived their battle with cancer.

>> THE 8th ANNUAL FAST AND FURRIEST...will be held Sat. morning in the city, raising money for the good work done at the Verona St. Animal Society and Rochester Animal Services.  Join me and all the pet lovers (pictured above last year) for the 5K & 10K races beginning at 8am on Verona St. at Plymouth Ave., hopscotching their way through the city and Corn Hill.  There's also a dog walk and Pet Fest beginning at 10am with live music and food throughout the day.

>> CANANDAIGUA FARMER'S MARKET AND WINE WALK...in the lakeside city Sat., with the market on Mill St. open from 8:30a - 12:30p, followed by a tour of downtown stores in the afternoon featuring Finger Lakes wines to sample.

>> GOOD TIMES FOR CAMP GOOD DAYS...with two vastly different ways to help raise much needed cash for the camp for kids which was hit so hard by recent flooding.  The 15th Annual "Ridin' for a Reason" motorcycle tours kicks off at noon in Arkport, rolling to Camp Good Days on Keuka Lake, followed by a big afternoon party.  Sat. night the legendary Bat McGrath  (a member of the Rochester Music Hall of Fame) will stage a 7p concert at the Keuka College Chapel.  All money raised will go directly to help restore the camp that makes so many kids and families so happy all summer.

>> TOUR de CURE....Sun. morn with Bill Moran at MCC.  It will be a beautiful day for a bike ride through the back roads, benefiting the American Diabetes Assoc.

>> PARTY ON THE PATIO...at the Bayside on Lake Rd. Sun. aft. starting at 5 with our own Julie as she hosts a Bud Light Lime party.  The Bayside is a perfect spot nestled between Irondequoit Bay and Lake Ontario in Webster to enjoy a grand summer Sunday Funday.

>> D DAY + 70...marks the 70th anniversary of the historic storming of Normandy, France which changed the world on June 6, 1944.  Services and ceremonies will mark this turning point in world history, highlighted by Whiskey 7, the vintage C47 aircraft which has been restored by the National Warplane Museum in Geneseo.  The legendary plane that was part of the invasion left Geneseo on May 15th, touring across the ocean through England and Germany before joining World War II vets for ceremonies in Normandy this weekend. Although most of the generation who fought and sacrificed in the mighty battle has passed, may they and their families never be forgotten.  God bless our troops.
