High School Cuts Off Valedictorian's Mic For Ad-libbing Speech

At Petaluma High School in California, the valedictorian is accusing the administration of violating her freedom of speech by cutting off the microphone during her graduation address.

Lulabel Seitz posted a video of the Saturday speech that shows the mic going silent as she lists various adversities students have had to overcome, including, she says, some on campus who "defend perpetrators of sexual assault and silence their victims."

The Stanford-bound student says she was sexually assaulted on campus by someone she knew and was frustrated by what she considered a lack of action by the administration.  School officials declined to comment on the reported assault, citing student privacy.

The school says Seitz and all students were warned not to veer from their pre-approved scripts.
