Hundreds are expected to converge on downtown Rochester today for Congresswoman Louise Slaughter's funeral. She passed away last week after being hospitalized for a concussion. Former president Bill Clinton will be in attendence. He will be joined by his wife, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton who is scheduled to speak at the funeral. Congressman John Lewis and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi will also give speeches.
The funeral starts at 11 o'clock this morning at Eastman Theatre. Listen to it live on Newsradio WHAM 1180 with limited interruptions.
The funeral service will affect Downtown traffic and cause delays in the area near the Eastman Theatre. Portions of three roads will be closed. Gibbs Street and Swan Street will remain closed until 3 p.m. And East Main Street will be closed from University Avenue to Chestnut Street until 3 p.m.
Motorist are encouraged to use Downtown parking garages or lots. The East End Parking Garage will be open free of charge from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
