To me, it just sounds WRONG when I hear a little kid call their parents by their first names instead of saying "mom" or "dad."
But apparently, some trendy moms are now TELLING their kids not to call them "mom." And the main reason is...they're afraid it makes them sound OLD.
Another reason? The moms want their relationship with their kids to feel more like FRIENDS, and going by their first name helps that.
Pretty sure when you have a kid, it's your job to be their PARENT, not their friend. (And it's a bonus when they like you! ) Just my opinion.
