Half of Men Say Chores Are Split Evenly...Women Disagree

Equality is important in a healthy relationship and that includes housework. But it turns out, there’s a big difference in men and women’s perception of who does most of the chores around the house. A new survey from parenting site Netmums asked 2,000 moms and dads how they split up childcare and household tasks and the responses show we’re not striking the balance we hope for.

In the survey, the majority of participants agree that men and women should divide watching the kids and cleaning up evenly. And almost half (40%) of the men said it’s evenly split in their house, but only 20% of their female partners agreed. Nearly three-quarters (74%) of the women surveyed say they’re taking on most of the work, regardless of how much they work.

So why is there such a discrepancy? According to Annie O’Leary, Netmums editor-in-chief, we can blame “centuries of parenting that has seen men take a backseat. She points out that while dads today are doing more, it’s only a fraction of what’s required and adds, “We all still have a long way to go.”
