Honoring our vets and troops with family fun this weekend.

This Saturday a special event will take over my hometown of Canandaigua.  And it's much more important, bigger and better than just a game, or 24 games.

Shootout for Soldiers is a 24-hour lacrosse event with a mission to use lacrosse as a platform to support American veterans and foster community engagement. The games are fun - and are meant to bring the community together in support of our nation's heroes. There is no championship or all-star team and the score runs for all 24 hours. There is good food, music and a festival of activities beyond lacrosse that make it a family friendly event for all.

The Shootout will start with a Harley Parade led by the Patriot Guard Riders, which will form at the Canandaigua Middle School on Chapel St.  All Harley riders are invited to join at 6 p.m. Saturday.

The Patriot Guard will lead the flag draped parade to Canandaigua Academy for the opening ceremonies, followed by the first Shootout game at 7 p.m. starring veterans who are more than welcome to join (at the website below) for the fun game on the new CA stadium turf. After the inaugural game, there will be 23 more hours of action on the field.

All are welcome to attend, even if you know nothing about the game of lacrosse.

As I wrote earlier, this is much more than just lacrosse games.  It's about families and our troops.  Proceeds will benefit Blue Star Moms at the Canandaigua Veteran's Medical Center, and the Veteran's Outreach Center in Rochester.  And there's plenty of all day family fun, including bounce houses, a water slide, food trucks, and even a mechanical bull on Sunday.

There will also be free lacrosse clinics put on by professionals who play for the Rochester Knighthawks and Rattlers pro teams.

Kudos and thanks to Canandaigua Academy Head Coach Deven York and his wife Lauren for bringing such a great national event to the Finger Lakes for a special 24 hours this weekend.  Please make the trip to support our veterans for all that they have done for US.  God bless all vets and our troops.
