There's no Simon Cowell or Paula Abdul, but like it or not, "American Idol" is trying a re-boot.
Once the most popular show on TV, and the forerunner to "The Voice" and all the rest, "Idol" was last seen in 2016 as it's popularity was fading on FOX. But, a rival network ABC thinks we're all thirsting for the drama of the search across the country for that one special performer.
Katy Perry is allegedly being paid around $25 million to be one of the judges, so to earn her check, she appeared on "Jimmy Kimmel Live" Monday night to hype the return.
