The paralyzed singer who made Katy Perry cry.

"American Idol" returned this week after about an 18 month hiatus. How did America ever get along without it?

The new re-boot is on a new network (ABC), has a new judging panel (Katy Perry, Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan) and less emphasis on the buffoons who used to dominate the auditions to get the gold ticket to Hollywood.  But there's still plenty of drama to be found.

Monday's ratings fell off about 20% from the debut Sunday night, but not without some tears from Katy Perry.  The pop star got emotional when 25-year-old David Francisco performed.  He had been paralyzed when his bicycle was t-boned by a car that ran a red light.

Here's his story, and what made Katy well up.
